Many years ago, Baghdâd was a great city of Islam. In fact, it was the capital of the Islamic Empire and, because of the great number of scholars who lived there, it was the center of Islamic knowledge.

One day, the ruler of Rome at the time sent an envoy to Baghdad with three challenges for the Muslims.

…People are trying to prepare for that ultimate achievement, the salvation (Falah). Islam the religion of peace is not experiencing peace anywhere. Muslim nation-states are not at peace internally or externally. Muslim people are not at peace with themselves. Mosques, Muslim communities and organizations are not at peace among themselves.

Time is of the essence, it is too precious to be wasted or neglected. The wise person is the one who pays attention to his/her time and does not treat it as a vessel to be filled with cheap things and vain talk. Instead, he/she limits it to worthy efforts and righteous deeds that please Allaah and benefit other people.

A young, new teacher was walking with an older, more seasoned teacher in the garden one day. Feeling a bit insecure about what Allah had for him to do, he was asking the older teacher for some advice.

The older teacher walked up to a rosebush and handed the young teacher a rosebud and told him to open it without tearing off any petals. The young teacher looked in disbelief at the older teacher and was trying to figure out what a rosebud could possibly have to do with his wanting to know the will of Allah for his life and work.
